In postwar Hiroshima, while caring for the victims of atomic bomb, a righteous and respectful young Japanese physician SAWADA receives a letter from Germany threatening to expose his crime committed in Manchuria while serving in the Imperial Japanese Army during WW2.

Inspired by a true story.

KAMINARI is inspired by the life story of Jisuke Nakazawa, a maternal grandfather of Mako Kamitsuna, the film director.  Set in post-war Hiroshima, the film weaves various survival tales of multiple characters who come in contact with a physician who struggles to find a remedy for the side effects of war.
